WWDC23: Rediscover Safari developer features | Apple
Who: Apple Developer; the transcript introduces the presenter as Patrick, an engineer on the WebKit Developer Experience team.
Watch: YouTube recording.
Read alongside: Apple’s session page and transcript.
Dates: A WWDC 2023 session, uploaded to Apple Developer’s YouTube channel on 25 May 2024. These are different dates, not competing publication claims. (youtube.com)
Key takeaways: The session explains responsive-layout inspection, opening pages in simulators, inspecting connected devices and browser automation through WebDriver. Its transcript explicitly demonstrates that comparable viewport widths can still produce different layouts between desktop Safari and Safari on iOS. (developer.apple.com)
Our suggested buyer application: Require separate evidence for three test categories:
- Desktop responsive view: useful for initial layout inspection.
- Simulator: useful for investigating platform-specific behaviour.
- Physical device: a separately recorded launch and interaction test.
For your selected sample, record whether the visitor can start the game, reach the intended playable state, use essential controls, change orientation where relevant and return to the publisher page. Include the actual browser and operating-system versions in each result.
The current WebKit enabling guide describes remote inspection of Safari pages and other inspectable web content on connected iOS devices. Use that documentation for setup rather than assuming every menu shown in the older recording remains unchanged. (webkit.org)
What it does not establish: This is a debugging workflow, not a diagnosis of your particular failure. Do not classify a failed launch as a cookie, fullscreen or territorial problem until the captured evidence supports that explanation.
