02Do-it-yourself game plans

Stage 9: How should you launch, maintain and eventually replace the supplier?

Launch a bounded catalogue with named owners and a tested fallback. Do not publish every available row simply because the importer can do so.

What should happen on launch day?

Use this proposed sequence:

  1. Freeze the approved game/domain/territory schedule.
  2. Confirm production credentials and any domain changes.
  3. Deploy the publisher wrapper with playable content initially disabled.
  4. Check privacy controls, disclosures and non-playable fallback pages.
  5. Enable a small first batch.
  6. Repeat production launch checks on critical devices and locations.
  7. Inspect actual outbound requests and promotions.
  8. Confirm monitoring, quota visibility and support contacts.
  9. Expand only after reviewing the first batch.
  10. Retain a timestamped release decision and rollback record.

The fallback should preserve the useful editorial page where your retained rights permit it. It should explain that the demo is unavailable, not promise the visitor a playable game and silently send them somewhere else.

What maintenance should you budget for?

The cadence below is a proposed starting point, to be adjusted for traffic, release frequency and supplier terms:

Cadence Work
Daily Review launch failures, quota position and withdrawal notices; check priority games.
Weekly Reconcile catalogue changes, new releases and unresolved incidents.
Monthly Review coverage, configuration discrepancies, staff time and unit costs.
Quarterly Refresh rights/territory questions, inspect data flows and rehearse a supplier outage.
Before renewal Reprice actual usage, revalidate essential coverage and test exit feasibility.

For catalogue synchronisation, implement the actual supplier’s documented update process. Slots Launch describes an initial import followed by periodic retrieval of changed records rather than visitor-by-visitor catalogue fetching. (docs.slotslaunch.com)

Keep proposed new titles in a review queue until the required evidence and checks are complete. An automatically imported record should not automatically become an authorised published demo.

How do you reduce supplier concentration risk?

Build a dependency map showing the studio, distributor, launch host and metadata source for every priority title. Then test the consequences of losing each dependency.

Do not assume that two distributors provide independent resilience if they depend on the same upstream studio or launch service. That is a procurement inference to investigate—not a finding about any named supplier here.

For each dependency, decide:

  • Which pages remain editorial-only?
  • Which titles have a separately authorised alternative?
  • Who can disable access immediately?
  • What records and assets may be retained?
  • How much migration work is required?
  • Which costs continue after cancellation?

What should the exit runbook contain?

Before termination:

  1. Export the records you are entitled to retain.
  2. Identify assets and metadata that must be removed.
  3. Replace supplier identifiers behind stable internal page records.
  4. Obtain permission for the replacement route; do not assume rights transfer.
  5. Test the replacement’s actual game configuration.
  6. Revoke credentials and remove obsolete third-party code.
  7. Stop scheduled calls and monitoring traffic to the former supplier.
  8. Verify that retired embeds no longer run on cached pages.
  9. Retain an appropriate audit record of the decision and removal work.

An exported catalogue is not a portable licence, and a saved launch URL is not a continuity plan. For signed systems, the launch URL may also expire by design; Slots Launch’s direct-embed documentation makes that lifetime constraint explicit. (docs.slotslaunch.com)
