23. What disclosures do affiliate demo pages need?

Explain material commercial relationships clearly and close to the relevant recommendation or referral link. A label such as “affiliate link” may not adequately explain that the publisher is paid. The FTC’s endorsement guidance specifically addresses affiliate links and the need for clear, conspicuous disclosure. (ftc.gov)

A possible starting point, to adapt to the actual arrangement, is:

We may receive a commission if you use links on this page to sign up with an operator.

Do not use that wording if it misstates how compensation works. Have counsel or compliance review the placement and any additional requirements associated with the promoted product.

Check the whole experience:

  • Is the disclosure visible near the recommendation?
  • Does it remain visible and readable on mobile?
  • Are sponsored reviews distinguished where necessary?
  • Does the embedded supplier wrapper introduce its own paid links?
  • Can a visitor reasonably distinguish demo play from a real-money destination?

The FTC warns against disclosures that visitors must hunt for or that are separated from the endorsement. A disclosure page elsewhere on the site is not a reliable substitute for a clear disclosure in context. (ftc.gov)

If the supplier controls promotions inside the frame, require contractual visibility and a documented escalation route. Do not assume the publisher’s external disclosure explains every commercial relationship inside the embedded experience.
